Bellway threatens couple who put critical banner up on their home

Bellway has ordered a customer to take down a sign criticising the housebuilder – or face court.

Jake and Chloe Wright hoisted a giant banner onto the front of their home in anger at alleged construction problems.

It says in large letters, “Buying a Bellway Home was our worse [sic] decision. Please ask us why!”

Bellway has told the couple the sign breaches covenants agreed as part of the sale.

The Wrights bought the £248,000 new-build in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicester, in December 2018, according to the Leicester Mercury, which first reported the story.

But they say the garage has regularly flooded despite efforts by Bellway to fix the problem – including while the couple was on honeymoon in Singapore.

Mr Wright told the Leicester Mercury: “They now want to install a drain in our garage which isn’t really fixing the problem.

“It’s just putting a bandage on something that was a problem at the start. It’s just one thing after another. We’ve been going back and forth. Me and my wife have had arguments and we’ve been so upset.

“We’ve now been told that they aren’t going to flatten the garden anymore, despite telling us they were going to as an apology.” He put the sign up on Wednesday.
