How do industrial valves work and what are their advantages and applications?

Linda J. Dodson

Industry valves are expected to grow many fold in demand and supply over the next few years. In addition to applications in commercial construction, industrial valves can also be found in automation projects. Industrial valves are in high demand worldwide due to aggressive industrialization and the expansion and sophistication of industrial plants.

Gas,van công nghiệp slurries, and liquids can flow through pipes and other passageways as a result of valves that open, close, and partially obstruct the pipes. Before it takes specific regulatory action, the valve converts the control signal generated from the controller using a pneumatic device.

Experts estimate that high-quality industrial valves account for approximately 15% of the total cost of materials and equipment in many industries.

Diaphragm valves, globe valves, gate valves, pressure valves, ball valves, check valves, and butterfly valves, among others, are industrial valve types. Each type of valve has a different purpose and a different working principle.

Valved gates

The gate valve is usually used in industries as an isolation valve. By regulating temperature and flow through pipes, they facilitate the flow of heated or cooled liquids. Cast iron, stainless steel, forged steel, and other materials are often used in gate valves in domestic and commercial settings.

Since the valve is frequently used to stop or start the flow of liquids, it must be durable, stable, and long-lasting. Valve gates prevent fluid from flowing through them by lifting a circular rectangular gate. A gate valve’s capacity and strength are determined by its bore diameter.

With gate valves, friction is eliminated, both ways can be used in a circuit setting, and energy is saved, which further reduces costs. Due to their low laminar flow, gate valves have minimal pressure loss. Due to their slow opening and closing speed, gate valves present a disadvantage. As a result of fluctuating temperatures, they might suffer high maintenance costs on leaks.

Valve Globes

Many industries use globe valves, which are considered to be among the most popular valves. As far as regulating and controlling linear flow of substances is concerned, they are similar to gate valves. In a globe valve, a movable plug is positioned inside an immovable ring to control the flow inside a pipe. During the installation of a Globe valve, the baffle is split inside the pipe and runs parallel to it.

There is no leakage as much with this type of valve as with any other type of valve. Globe valves are relatively easier to surface since their opening and closing times are short. A disadvantage of Globe valves is that they lose a lot of pressure and it takes a lot of force to close the valve when it is under high pressure.
