Trump threatens to pull US out of WHO if reforms aren’t made

TOKYO — In a letter to World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to pull out of the organization and permanently cut American funding if it does not commit to “major substantive improvements” within the next 30 days.

“It is clear the repeated missteps by you and your organization in responding to the pandemic have been extremely costly for the world,” Trump wrote in the letter, which he posted on Twitter. “The only way forward for the World Health Organization is if it can actually demonstrate independence from China.”
